Fatima Alanis of Queens in North Carolina, representing Mexico, placed second in the women's 5,000-meter final in 16:10.38 at the NCAA Division 2 Outdoor Championships at Grand Valley State in Allendale, Mich. Alanis improved from finishing ninth at last year's outdoor final to duplicate her runner-up performance from the Division 2 indoor 5,000 in March at Pittsburg State in Kansas.
